Perak & Penang 6D5N – Day One (Sekinchan, Teluk Intan, Ipoh)

Perak and Penang is situated in the north of Kuala Lumpur. To celebrate Sheepo graduation from his four years of engineering studies and Christmas, we planned a 6D5N trip departing from Kuala Lumpur – Sekinchan – Teluk Intan – Ipoh – Taiping – Penang and back to Kuala Lumpur. One post will be dedicated for each day of the trip.

This is where the journey begins!

Sekinchan (Day One)

Lucky for us, we didn’t encounter any traffic jam from KL to Sekinchan. We departed from KL at 9.00 am and reached Sekinchan by 11.00 am. Our first destination in Sekinchan was Ri Ri Fatt Restaurant to grab our breakfast. The place was already swarmed with people who dressed like tourists. We managed to secured a small table and ordered a bowl a fish porridge. We waited for almost 20 minutes before the porridge was served. The porridge was actually not bad and there is a generous portion of fish meat in the porridge.

Next, we visited Ah Ma House which sells local specialty products and traditional biscuits. Although the price is a little high, the food is certainly delicious and they provide some samples for you to try as well. We bought a bucket of Kuih Kapit because we really liked the rich coconut milk flavor into the biscuit.

Then, we went to the famous Sekinchan Wishing Tree to stroll along the beach and take instagram photos. However, we didn’t expect the place to be so crowded. Everyone is standing in front of the tree trying to take some pictures. Under the blazing hot sun, we took some photos at the backside of the tree (LOL), which is less competitive among the tourists.

Teluk Intan (Day One)

Our next stop was Teluk Intan which is well known for their leaning clock tower as well as Chee Cheong Fun. Using trunk road, we drove for 2 hours and reached Teluk Intan town at 3.00 pm. Sheepo actually preferred to drive on trunk road since there is scenery along the way to entertain us instead of one straight long highway all the way to destination.

We stopped at Glutton Square food court to refuel our stomach. Unfortunately, it was already late noon when we arrived where most hawker stalls already closed. We just ordered a Char Kuey Teow. It was very delicious and only cost for RM5! The Char Kuey Teow was readied within 5 minutes and the fragrance was really strong. The stall is located on the in front and right side of glutton square. Coincidentally, we also saw an uncle selling what it claims to be “Liew Kee Chee Cheong Fun” which is very famous in Teluk Intan. However, the Chee Cheong Fun was cold, tasted normal and quite pricey as well. But, we will definitely give the famous stall a visit when we visit Teluk Intan next time.

Ipoh (Day One)

Another one and half hour of driving on trunk road, we finally reached Ipoh at 6.30 pm! We checked in to Hotel Eight Inn for about RM67 per night. For dinner, we headed to Sun Shi Sheng Restaurant which is located at walking distance from our hotel. The food was so-so but for some reason, it is very crowded there at night.

After dinner, we took a walk inside Aeon Station 18 to met up some friends who live in Ipoh before concluding the first day of our trip.
